Papers For Doughnuts

Imagine being a ten-year-old child growing up in poverty and staring into a storefront window as your mouth waters and your empty belly hurts. Imagine a simple act of kindness that has the power to alter the course of your life.

I would like to introduce my debut novel entitled Papers For Doughnuts.
This first-person narrative is a coming-of-age story set in small-town America during the changing times of the 1950s and 1960s.

Papers For Doughnuts is the heart-rending tale of how young Jane Carey struggles to survive the sudden death of her father, the neglect and abuse of a sadistic, narcissistic mother, the loss of her childhood innocence at the hands of a man trusted by the community, and the symptoms of a mysterious illness that begins in her early teens.

With help from a cast of town characters who teach her life's lessons along the way, Jane slowly comes to believe in herself and is determined to overcome the obstacles she faces on her journey to freedom and new beginnings.
